SLI did a fairly great job on their Amtrak payware packs. Such as the Empire Builder... this included two P42DC locomotives and a full Amtrak Phase IV Superliner set. The Southwest Chief had two Phase III P40DC locomotive, with some Phase III Superliners. The California Zephyr has some of the neatest (in my opinion) equipment with Phase II F40PHs and Phase II Superliners and baggage. If you wanted a Phase III F40PH, you had to get the F40PH pack. Not a problem. Phase V B32-8WHs and Phase IVb Horizons came with the Amtrak Horizon pack.
So, with all this Amtrak equipment, what's missing?
Well, for starters, let's lay down the basics. Amtrak has had more than five paint schemes.
- Phase I was their first official paint. On locomotives, they had red noses, nice large logos on the side, and some black tops. Example:

On passenger equipment, the cars sported red, white, and blue strips. There was a white block on each end with the Amtrak logo.

- Phase II was later. This is the paint that they ordered their F40PHs in. It had the large strips like in Phase I, but a much more sleek and clever looking paint on the cars. They took off the end white boxes where the logo goes, then put "Amtrak" in white on the red strip. The locomotives, for the first time, were painted to match the cars.

- Phase III was by far, the most iconic paint everyone remembered Amtrak for. It was most worn by the F40PHs, and they're P40DCs came ordered with a special version of it. It included much narrower strips. The white strip came out more. On cars, and locomotives, they wore a same version. Along with the P40DCs, the B32-8WHs wore a special version as well. The B32-8WH version became known as "Pepsi Can", because of it's color. AEM-7 electrics wore a special colorful version of this paint as well.

- Phase IV was the first step into our modern Amtrak. For locomotives, it meant they got two small red strips with one bigger blue strip. The colors are changed as well. They still use the bold font "Helvetica" logo. This was the last scheme on Superliners that featured the "SUPERLINER" on the side of the car. It, for P40DC/P42DC locomotives, kept the black and white reflective strips on the bottom from the Phase III scheme. Northeast Corridor service units got a tinted grey top on the P40DC/P42DC locomotives.

- Phase IVb is something that confuses people. This is only applied to passenger cars and equipment. It has never been applied to locomotives. What it is, it's Phase IV, but instead of bold "Amtrak", they've put on the new Amtrak logo with changed letters and a red reflective strip at the bottom. On Superliners, it's more than that. Superliners no longer have "Superliner" on the side. They don't have the bold "Amtrak" on the side either. They only have the new logo on a side and the number. Much more plain.

- Phase V is applied only to locomotives. It's the newest Amtrak paint. Found mostly on P40DC/P42DC locomotive, they feature a blue top that comes to a point on the front. It swoops down like a wave on the P40DC/P42DCs and features the new logo as a big decal on the side. It also presents the numbers on the side just like the Phase I paint.

... now that you understand more about Amtrak paint. You can now see where SLI missed locomotives and cars. Perhaps they're planning another pack to fill these gaps. However, I wish to fill them myself. So this will be my project log topic where I post what's new and what's going on. So, far here's a list.
